Light fixture, Bat Signal

Okay.  You've always wanted one, but never had a good excuse to use the bat signal.  Well--lets face it, you never will.

Face-based light fixture sticks to most things, constructed of one generic materials roughly 1 foot depth, 1 foot widths.

adaptive spline extrusion

Never experienced adaptive components?!  Oh boy.

Try this out, or just inspect the family to see how it works.  This is a spline extrusion with 8 adaptive points, which means the sweep will regenerate in real time to pass through the 8 points wherever you set them.   It's quite fun to play with.  I should get back to work, honestly.

If you select the adaptive points, (you might have to tab) you get X-Y-Z grips to moved the path manually.

I've added 8 new parameters to control the diameters of the tube, and any differences in diameter between adaptive points will be smoothly transitioned.

Graphic Scales Pack -- read comments

FORGOT I COULDN'T UPLOAD ZIPS.  Apologies.  Attached is only ONE scale.  Here is the link to a forum post that includes the zip download:

http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=28892

Please understand, THIS DOES NOT AUTO-DETECT SCALE.  You have to load each .rfa into your project, then make new view title types for each scale, and for each view manually select the view title that corresponds with its scale.  This is not as tedious or error-prone as it sounds, however.   Just a few minutes of setup.

Binary Switchboard

Here's a switchboard for addressing up to 256 devices? I just made it for the challenge--eletrical/data is not my field.

This annotation automatically converts any integer up to 256 into its (up to) 8 digit binary eqivalant, and moves the toggles to the correct locations.

There's some parameter kung-fu in there.

Stacked Rock Retaining Wall Baluster

What is revit bad at? Sitework. What else is revit bad at? Railings.

So here's a lovechild of revit's two weaknesses that's actually somewhat powerful--A baluster of stacked rocks that tessalates to form a retaining wall.

With revit 2018's new feature that allows railings to follow topography, You can place a railing on smoothly-graded surfaces like paths and roadways and use this baluster on a 4'-8" spacing to achieve a decent, low-effort look.

Enjoy. Improve the rocks at your leisure.

EDIT: This is a BALUSTER which is a component within a railing. Take a default railing, switch out the posts/balusters for this at a 4'8" spacing.

Sitka Spruce

Due to a lack of realistic trees that can actually fill up a site, I modeled this, a fair representation of a Sitka Spruce/hemlock found in the Pacific Northwest.  Irregular enough that by varying height and rotation, acres of one model can still seem organic.

DOWNSIDE:  this file is built super-inefficently.  Sorry.  3mb.  One day soon I'll upload a replacement a fraction the size.  Does not render any more realistically.   Copy/paste groups for best effect...

Library Shelving Mk2

These library shelves have significant improvements over the first version I uploaded several years ago.

This new shelf scales seamlessly from 1.5 to 7+ feet, meaning new families are not needed for short or tall stacks.

As the overall height of the shelving grows or shrinks, the shelves not only space themselves evenly, but the shelf count now increases of decreases.  (from 0 to 4 intermediate shelves.)  Once again, the only parameter input needed from you is Height and the rest happens automatically.

Previous versions would squish the books into the shelf above it, and books would start overlapping at around 4 feet.

Books visible in "fine" detail level only.

I'm open to suggestions.  Possibilities:

A reporting parameter "volumes" (books per feet value) can help determine if you're meeting a library's requirements, and a "FORCE SHELF" field might also make sense if someone wants to add or remove a shelf at a particular height.

Library Stacks (Older Version!)

EDIT:  new 2014 version here--http://www.revitcity.com/downloads.php?action=view&object_id=15176

It's much improved.

Old info:

Adaptation of the basic shelving unit, with some randomized extrusions plopped down on the shelves.  Scalable to a degree, 4-6' aprox height.  Looks reasonable in array.

Books only visible at "fine" detail level.  Shelving is bare at medium/coarse.

ADA Countertop and Sink

This is my most ambitious family yet.

This ADA-compliant countertop and sink(s) was made to solve frustrations in our office that there were no functional and flexibile families to meet generic bathroom sink and countertop needs.

This accomplishes that, I feel.

User can specify length of the countertop, materials, and up to four sinks or as few as zero.

Sink locations space automatically to fill the surface, depending on how many sinks are visible.  If for some reason you'd like the sinks to be asymmetric, a "shift sink" field is avaiable in the properties bar.

Gloomy Hemlock

Here's a new tree to meet the needs of the pacific northwest.  I've modeled it at slightly over 60 feet in height.  The height is non-adjustable.

There's a peculiar on/off parameter I've added, which is three tiers of "Gloom" that revolve the trunk.  When these trees are clumped together, these regions form a dark hazy undergrowth to approximate that forest feeling.  the first couple layers of trees look best with this parameter disabled.

beware; the family is 4+ megabytes.  This is a geometrically outrageous tree, and you will notice it impact performance quickly.  But it can add a lot of snap to a presentation image.

EDIT:  cannot re-upload object, but I noticed that "black forest gloom" material renders as black reflective glass.  Change instead to misc. material with 90-95% transparency, 100% glossiness, "air" refractive.

Adaptation of the single flush door family, but with a knob.  Knob scales with door thickness and width.  Knob does not display in plan. Good for adding interest to 3D views and walkthroughs while not sacrificing clean floorplans.
