Switch to the placement side elevation of the wall, and create a void 3” deep –Here’s How. Select Void

When you select void (or solid) you get the pop up asking what type of void to make, select Extrude.

Draw your extrusion, I used a simple square box. (Don’t worry about matching the dimension).

Next Select Extrusion Properties on the side panel. You will get the pop up shown in Figure 7.

Note that there are several aspects to this Popup. Change the Extrusion end from 1’-0” to be 3” (to make it a recess in the wall.) Leave Every thing else alone (for now) - Select OK to close the Popup. Select Finish Sketch from the side menu, and the magenta box on the elevation turns orange. (Figure 8.)

Now the neat little trick to actually create the void in the wall. Select the orange box, and it turns Red with little blue dots. (figure 9)
