It seems that everytime I duplicate an elevation, it becomes associated to the elevation tag in plan. I want the elevation tags in plan to stay associated to the default north, south, east, west elevations. Is it something I am doing, or is there a setting that controls this? Thanks.

When you right click and duplicate an elevation it will also duplicate the elevation tag. If you select the elevation symbol and move it you should see two of them. You can then choose to hide one or the other or simply move it to a different location. You will have to hide it in any plan view you don't want to see it in.
