ok this is my problem: i have a grid that i use for my plans, its not a structural grid. my grids usually involve lines and circles, basically as guidelines for my walls during the conceptual/development phases. in autocad since every floor was a separate file i wld jus copy it into each one. but in revit how do i get it to show on every floor plan? rite now i have it on the ground floor plan and i cant copy it or move it to any other levels. i need it such that its visible in every plan and also visible when i print it out. any ideas? also i had another quick quest. from what i understood in revit u basically work off one file. but somehow i have other files saved as well. they have the same names with a numeral extension after. ex. my original file was called client0228.rvt and when i open that folder i see other files called client0228.0045.rvt, client0228.0083.rvt i always open the one w/o any extensions and work off that but i wanna make sure im working with the current file. what are the files with the extensions? where do they come from?? thanx in advance

For the grid, you could open each floor plan and link the base dwg into each level. Alternatively import drawing onto one level and use this as an "underlay" for each level by setting within level properties. Someone else may know of another way ? The file extensions are created as back up files each time you save. I beleive revits own version of "belt and braces" equivalent to Autocad "bak" files but it can come in useful if you wish to take a few steps back in a project. I generally erase at end of week. You can set number of copies to create in options.

This is what reference planes can be used for. You can also use grid lines that do not use a bubble, just create a new type and turn off the bubble in the type parameters. The files you are asking about are backup files. Post edited on 2005-02-28 13:17:06

In Revit grids are 3D Elements. If the grids are to be the same on subsequent levels then simply change the extents of the grid to cut through the appropriate level. They will then show on all levels they intersect with. This is done in elevation or section and providing you are using version 7.0 there should be a 3D icon upon selecting the grid that indicates you are changing its 3D extents. If this doesn't appear your changes will only be 2 dimensional (view specific). HTH.

If I understand correctly, you are basically using 2d lines to do your design & then drawing walls on top of them when you're ready. I would suggest you take a look at the new massing tool. It allows you to build your building as mcurse and then turn any face you want into a wall, floor, ceiling, etc. It would also allow curved faces to be converted to walls, etc.
