This is a weird problem that I can't figure out. I'm importing a relatively small .dwg file into Revit, and it imports the file along with blank space that is roughly 2 million feet wide. I even moved the entire drawing in AutoCAD 2 million feet to the right, and upon importing into Revit again it gave me a blank space 1.2 million feet tall. Before you ask, I've checked for any objects on frozen or off layers, and exploded the entire drawing to make sure there weren't any weird base points on any blocks, and flattened the drawing. I still think it might have something to do with the dwg file, but I am at a loss and the import is killing my memory in Revit. Has anyone seen this before?

WWH, Tried that, but it still didn't affect the size of the blank space. I did copy/paste the whole drawing into a brand new dwg file, then imported, and that did the trick. I still don't know what caused it, and if you don't have AutoCAD you may be SOL. The file I was working with was a consultant's drawing, so there's no telling where the issue could've stemmed from.

I HAVE IMPORTED AND LINKED AND TRIED EACH OF THE OPTIONS ON PLACEMENT. THEY ALL COME IN THE SAME WITH THE "2MILLION MILES" OF BLANK SPACE AROUND THEM... I EVEN TRIED TO ZOOM EXTENTS IN CAD BEFORE I SAVED THE DETAIL FILE TO SEE IF THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE. NOPE. THE FILES WERE ALL CLEANE AND PURGED AND ZOOMED AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS DIDNT WORK FOR ME-

JONATHAN079- ALL OF THE DETAILS FROM CAD THAT I IMPORTED ALSO WERE COPIED WITH BASE POINT AND PASTED INTO A BRAND NEW FILE. I STILL HAD THAT STUPID PROBLEM- COMPUTER GLITCH MAYBE? OR OPERATOR ERROR

I think it's a glitch of some sort. Only thing you might want to try is exploding the drawing as much as possible before you copy/paste into the new dwg file. Other than that, I got nothing. I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one who was having this problem. I had smoke coming out of my ears all morning.

What you probably have is something way out in space in the CAD drawing. You could do a crossing selection in the CAD dwg in the space area and see if you can find the problem. Could be just a point. When I do imports, I like to turn off every layer I don't need, then wblock out what I want to a new file. This gets rid of all the crap ... layers etc that I don't want.

Happy to share your frustration. Sort of. Let me know if you find another solution to the problem.

That's the first thing I thought of too. I all did that. There were no objects way out in space. I exploded and purged. No weird base points, no errant points or lines. I even made sure the AutoCAD drawing was flattened to rule out any 3D anomalies. And it sounds like K8vitali was selectively copying and pasting into a new file, and (s)he was having the same problem. I still think the problem is on the AutoCAD end, but I think it's something to do with file setup or settings... something a little harder to check. Don't know, I'm at a loss. But as I mentioned, I DID manage to fix my problem, so maybe at least some people who've had this problem can do the same.

Use wblock command, and create a new one, may work. Use base command, 0,0,0 in there, and finaly the limits... who knows?

i talked to one of my friends that works with revit all day, every day over the weekend. he told me that it is indeed a pain to import autocad, but if you do, make sure there is only one line type and that everything is a comlete polyline. this should help with the blank space issue- also blocking might help as well. also told me that once lines from autoCAD are in the file, they are almost impossible to purge out....i am going to try this and i willl post back
