Is there a way to copy a detail view from one project to another. I have a sheet of pilaster details that are the same for another project. I know I can save a drafting view to a file and bring it in. I would hate to have to redraw all the details.

I created the details as a call-out on the floor plan of the pilasters. I created them as a detail.

Thanks.

Using 9.1

In the file with out the detail view go to File-> Insert From File -> Views    Select the project you want the view from, a dilague will pop up with the views in that file, scroll through them and select all the views you want to bring accross.

Thanks for rhe responce. I tried that, but it only gives me the drafting view, not the detail views. I read where you can group the 2d items out of the detail and save those. Then bring them in and overlay them on top of the geometry.

Have you tried this? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks

You could try making a new Detail Component (File, New, Family then when the window opens, choose Detail Component)  This is like making a block in CAD.  You can copy the detail from the project into the family (if it is all detail lines.  If part of the detail is actually model, you'll need to draft in those parts as you can't transfer from a model to a family like that).  Then when you need to place that detail, you can simply import the family and place it like a block.  We do this for details that get repetitive (Wall type Schedule, Annotation Symbol Schedule, some footing details that are always the same, etc).

Hope this helps,

Ruth
