I am a new user of Revit. Most of the families are constructed in imperial. How do you change these families from imperial to metric...........I am sure that this is a stupid question but I am only beginning.

No problem huey, everyone comes across that one, usually sooner rather than later. You'll find it under the settings menu, go to Project Units and change the relevant formats. This menu is in the same place for both Families and Projects.

Just did this one yesterday Huey and hisdirt is absolutely correct. One thing I will mention though is that if you CHANGE and existing project from imperial to metric, be sure to check any existing view's scale to make them even. For example, if a view was formerly 1/4 scale and you change the project to metric, that view is now at 1:48 and not 1:50 as I am sure you would want it. This is particularly frustrating to try and figure out why a stupid graphic scale does not scale correctly when printed!

So does all my content that I created in Imperial need to be opened and the unit changed and then resaved as metric or do I just need to have my project set to Metric units and I can bring my content. Cause it job like I can use the same content for metric and imperial without have to recreate my content into metric or change anything in my content

I cannot see a good reason to modify your content.  The physical attributes of the materials do not change when the units change.  A 2x4 still measures 1 1/2" by 3 1/2", no matter where it "lives".

So if I need to create a project in Metric I need to recreate all content in a Metric Format. Correct, sorry if I am miss understanding this just want to be clear. As now all my content is Imperial.

Totally depends on your situation.  Typically, when I have done foreign work, we are only doing schematics, prototypes, or maybe even DD drawings, not CD's.  Those are typically handed off to a local architect of record to complete.  Having said that, I typically do the work in imperial dimensions (because that's what I know), and change the project dimensions before I send out.  Yes, this results in some oddball dimensions on the metric side, but it keeps me sane while I work in imperial units.

On the other hand, if you will be producing the CD's, you may want to go ahead and set your project dimensions to metric so you can have tidy dimensions.  Just remember that you CAN type in imperial dimensions when working in Revit.  For example, if you need to copy a wall 5'-0" away from another, you can use your copy command and type in 5' (you MUST enter the ' in this case because your project dimensions default to M or MM, depending on your setings).

Either way, I would not modify or recreate your content.  Just don't design to minimum critical dimensions.  Give a little breathing room.
