For background, I work in space planning and we use a lot of model groups for commonly used typical layouts. We have a template for construction documents and all of our created model groups and furniture components are in this template.

In this particular case, the model group is for two chairs and a side table in between. We have 2 colors of the chairs (navy and grey) but the model group is only made with ONE of these colors (grey) so I often have to go in and edit the model group and change the grey chair component to the navy chair component which are each separate and contain their own specific material for the chair seat. When I go to edit the model group to change the chair from grey to navy, the chair will display as a navy chair in component name and it IS the navy chair component, but the material will remain in grey and I have to manually go in and change the material to navy even though the model itself is in the navy material. We have other model groups using these same chairs and I do not experience this problem with those groups or any other model groups and components we use.

When I open the model family for the navy chair, the chair is navy and NOT grey and the material is correct in the properties. When I place these chairs outside of a model group and switch the chair, there are no problems either.

I thought maybe the chairs were painted in the model group which is why they would remain grey, but that's not the case. So every time I change the chair in the model group from grey to navy, I have to go in and manually change the materials. It's so frustrating!! I feel like I have tried everything to solve this. Is there something I am missing?

Check the two colours in the materials library IN the Revit model. They may both be drawing content from the same material. Under the appearance tab.
