Hello All

I have spent 4 hours yesterday trying to copy a CAD file that was already linked into my Revit 17 Architectural Project and relink it into another plan view. I wanted to trun the text off in the copied CAD file. The problem was that when I turn a layer off on the cad file it is turned off on all the views which the cad drawing is visable.

I published the coordinates into the cad file. Then I copied the cad file and renamed it. but when I tried to relink the file into another view it seems to have lost its location. I was not able to link by shared coordinates. The file came in more than 20 miles out, Even thought the original file was created by coping the geometry needed to clipboard then pasetd into a new fresh cad file. I spent ages trying to find the linked file then moving it to the correct location.

Problem 2; when I managed to find the linked file in revit and move it near the revit project geometry, the cad file scale was wrong. and it was not just a matter of resetting the scale of the cad file either. It was some odd scale.

I do not expect someone to diagnose the problem for me. I would just like some good advice from some cad experts out there on linking into Revit in general. The Revit Project in Question I will just use the original CAD file and PDF and create a DWG then trun off the text layer for the other view. It would be nice to avoid this problem in the future.

Thanks

Joe

A method to consider is to copy the CAD file (using CTRL C) and paste 'Aligned to same place' the new view.  The layers can be controlled independently.  It will only show once under the 'Manage Links' dialogue box.
