It looks like a lot of good improvements in 2018:

And from Autodesk

Railings can now be hosted by and follow site terrain.

Multistory stairs will now adjust to different floor to floor heights.  This one looks like it may still have some problems.

Looks like some good schedule improvements.

The structural and MEP guys get some needed improvements too.

Stair by Sketch, has been removed from Revit. The only option now is the Stair by Component tool.

Some other items that I read.

  • Railing sketches do not have to be broken at landings.  Revit will automatically see the landing and host the railing properly.
  • You can host elements to imported 3D files
  • You now have access to symbols in the text editor. Use the right-click menu inside your text box.
  • Text in tags was always strange.  Tags and text both have that smooth look.
  • Print command was added to the Quick Access Toolbar
  • They added the option to create parameters for Model Groups and Revit Links.

Hey WW,

I have been testing revit 2018. I found it laggy in 3D with only 5 units modeled.

It also flicks from colour to (looks like hidden line) while orbiting around in 3D.

I have a new high spec pc.. (11gb Gcard, 32gb Ram etc...)

Just wondering if you have had any of these issues also. Cheers.

Our office has always lagged on every issue until we coordinated with consultants.   Not using 2018 yet.

Jamie351 -- I know what you mean.  We're using 2018 and sometimes it just feels like hardware acceleration is off or something.  Strange stuff.  Orbit or pan and half the objects dissapear... Have to give it a quick wiggle and it comes right back...

We had a problem with revit 2018 crashing on 2 seperate warehouse projects.  we couldnt figure it out... Started a ticket with Autodesk.  They said it worked fine... but it doesnt.    We had been in contact with autodesk support and they requested a bunch of journal files to see if they could figure it out as they could not reproduce it.

Turns out it was one of the addons Autodesk pushed out.  I was able to trouble shoot it because one machine hadnt had its updates yet, and we had no issues with the file on it.  Soon as i worked on the machine with updates, it crashed out.  I removed all the recent updates and installed them untill i figured out which one it was.  Turns out it was the Structural Precast for Revit 2018 addon.  Crazy stuff, we dont even use it.

Anyway, thats about the only issues we have had so far.

How do I uninstall the add ons....

It lags for no reason even on a smaller job. Now I have upgraded to 2018 kind of stuck with it..

I had it installed on my HDD not SSD so I have just reinstalled it on SSD no difference.

Here are the current add ons I have installed (I havent installed any myself)

Autodesk got in contact with me.  They said the "P&ID Modeler for Revit 2018" and "Structural Precast for Revit 2018" were throwing lots of errors.  I unistalled both.

You can do that by going to add/remove programs and search for "Precast" and "P&ID"  If they appear in the list, you can click uninstall.
