Hello there...
I need to know, is it possible to instance elements, so that altering 1 will affect the other as well? If so, how is it done?

You can group elements and copy the group from place to place. Edit one group and all the instances update.

It might help to know what sort of elements you are talking about...?
As groups are the way to go if you are talking about how some elements interact with others.
And parametric families and types would ne the way to go if you are talking about singular elements.

Well, to be more specific, I want to implement a north arrow, and I want it to instance on all of my floor plans. e.g. when I rotate my ground floor arrow, I want my 1st floor arrow to rotate as well.

mr spot has answered this -but i'll try explaining the way i think i'd do it
try grouping your north arrow, even though it is just one element. then copy/paste aligned/same place on all your sheets (will not take long). then you can edit that group anywhere and north will be reflected on all sheets. i might try this myself actually!

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get this to work...
I've created my North Arrow from a bunch of medium lines, then I grouped them all into 1 group.
Afterwards I copied to clipboard, then pasted "Same Place" on the above floor.
Finally, I tried rotating the lower floor group, realizing it only affected that group alone, leaving the copied one untouched..
What did I do wrong?

Dont' group it... Create it as a family with a parametric angle.
Then place in all views and set the angle once per type... That way you can easily change it once and have it change in all views...

Well Mr. Spot my friend, I created that North Arrow as a new family, added an angle parameter under family types, but I'm assuming there's a way of linking that angle to the actual north arrow.. since so far changing the angle does nothing to the arrow... How can I make it affect the arrow?

You have to select the group... then Edit Group... then rotate the elements while in the editing mode. You can't just rotate the whole group and expect the others to rotate too.

I'd post an example but i don't have one with me at the moment.
What you need to do is a create the north arrow annotation symbol. Load that into another blank annotation symbol.
Place it and rotate it (making sure to centre it on the reference planes intersection), and add a angle dimension to it then link this angle dimension to the parameter.
Now reload this into the project and you'll have an adjustable north pointer.

How do you link the angle dimension to the parameter? I'm quite new to this and I can't seem to find anything that describes this to any degree.

in answer to your questions, i have followed mr spot's advice and achieved a north point that is rotatable, with a type parameter. ie change its element angle property and every instance of it in the project changes. i have uploaded it so you can test it.

When you create any family, you can associate a dimension with a parameter. First create the dimension. Then select it. Then choose "Add Parameter" from the Label box, on the Options Bar. Regards, Ian
