Issue: You are trying to open a file and you get an error message that your file contains an incorrect schema.
Causes: This error can be introduced to file when you copy or save files, and part of the file gets corrupted due to network or hardware issues. This can also happen with mirroring services such as Box or Dropbox if you try to access a file which has not yet fully been mirrored.
Solution: If you are seeing this in a central file, creating a new central file by going through the steps below has fixed the issue for some users:
  1. In Windows Explorer, move the central file and it's backup folder to a new location.
  2. Find a suitable local file.
  3. Open, Purge all unused.
  4. Use Save As to save the file as a new Central file.
  5. Relinquish all ownership. (You will have to do this for all Revit files host and linked before creating new locals)
  6. Close Revit.
  7. On all of the client workstations, open Windows Explorer (Windows key +E).Type %temp% in the address bar.
  8. Delete as many files as possible from this folder. Some files may not be able to be deleted if they are in use by other applications on your machine.
  9. Move the local file backups to a different location.
  10. Create new local files.
If the error is limited to the existing local file, you can create a new local file to clear the error by going through the process below:
  1. Close Revit.
  2. Open Windows Explorer (Windows key +E).Type %temp% in the address bar.
  3. Delete as many files as possible from this folder. Some files may not be able to be deleted if they are in use by other applications on your machine.
  4. Move the local file backups to a different location.
  5. Create a new local file.
