Does anyone know how to adjust the Thermal properties of materials so in a wall type the R value will be correct for your selected material.

thanks

As of 2013, Thermal properties of materials is controlled by the asset asigned to the material.   Be aware that assets may be assigned to more than one material.

Right, but for example, Ridgid Insulation does not contain an R value in the Thermal tap of the Asset Editor.  Can i somehow use the Asset Editor to add a 'field' for the calculated R value (thickness/thermal conductivity) or create a calculated field in a schedule or...?

I am really trying to tie BIM more dynamically to energy modeling concepts and software.  Also, building codes require that buildings perform and meet energy requirements.  So creating walls and roofs from materials that have R or U values as just another component would be really helpful.

I am probable missing something easy here....thats usually the case

thanks again,

j

There are no calculations available in the material editor.

If your insulation has no thermal characteristics assigned, then add that property - see image and this help.  In  this image, I added polyisocyanate thermal properties to my 1" rigid insulation.

Note that we have multiple materials for various thickness materials where we want the imtem to tag properly with a material tag.
