So I have been making area plans. and theres a pool. just one. I haven't added that area cut out yet. so someone previous to me getting the file has addded them(?) there are three on the list there. but without being placed. (see pic) and how do i get that purged out of the list? So when I add a pool area tag thing, I just have one right one on the list.

Select the 'area' not placed and then look at your top Ribbon Bar - You should see the 'Delete' Icon available to remove the areas not placed correctly.

dude! omg, Didnt see that as an option! nice. worked fine. seemed scary to delete the row, but since it also deleted that invisible geomettry on the plan it was perfect.

It sure drove me nuts when I first started in Revit too. But over time you get things figured out and then you really start pump out excellant results.

Yeah. I've totally been using it since 09 for residential, and for that I'm great!. but not for big commercial projects. Im pretty good at modelling now, but some of the "deeper" tool of revit I still find tough. This is the first one ive use the area tool in all that time lol. most is pretty intuitive, but sometimes you just get to a spot where you just can't even know what to ask the help menu. :-) thanks for the help!

As of about 2013, areas and rooms kind of behave the same.  When you delete a room or space from a plan, Revit thinks you may want to place that space somewhere else so it keeps all of the data for you.  I didn't like this at first but the space is easily deleted from the schedule.  To re-use a deleted space/room that has not been deleted yet from the schedule, when you start to place the room/space, look on the options bar.  That previously deleted room/space will b e listed in that room dropdown.  See Image.
