We are a small going to medium Australian manufacturing company. My boss has been using Excel sheets to keep track of inventory and procument. We also developped 3D drawings of our products and components via Revit 2016.

My boss now wants to look into the problems of:

1. Being able to edit parameters of Revit components (Families & Family instances) outside of Revit

2. Some sort of simple/cheap ERP or MRP system that integrate Revit (or at least Revit Schedules) with a basic warehouse/inventory/procument functionalities.

3. Possibility of standardizing Revit Family Repository (for example, keeping only standard families and their standard types in a shared repositories, creating templates and using templates to create new projects, loading/editing families and uploading families back to repository if needed)

We are looking at:

1. Dynamo with Excel importing/exporting

2. Revit API

3. Cloud ERP (e.g. NetSuite)

4. Autodesk Vault

5. Excel-based MRP/ERP.

I start to learn bits of each system but don't know enough about any of them to make a good recommendation. What should be the best way to address his problem? Have anyone attempted something similar with success? Where can I find information that address these issues? (I can google each of them separately but I cannot see an integration path yet) Where in Australia could we find consultants who know about all these systems? He's a bit tight about the money so we try to keep it simple for now.

Thanks

Anne

Your not clear on one issue.   Do you want to edit the family parameters outside the project?   If so, then use a type catalog.

Once a family is placed, your ability to edit family parameters are limited to instance parameters.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. Yes we are using Type Catalog to create and keep different types of a family. But I thought that with Revit API, you can edit the families themselves via Family Document?

Anyway, my task is not to develop any of these options/systems yet. I am trying to gather information about each option such as which small ERP/MRP system, which can be integrated easily with Revit, should I recommend him to buy? Or should we hire an outsource company to develop a Revit-centered simple ERP via Revit API?

The reason for these questions is that we have spent a lot of efforts in developing the 3D models in Revit and right now most of the business processes are implemented in simple Excel sheets, revolving around Revit and Revit Schedules. My boss and engineers want to keep everything simple so the best option probably is to buy/build some simple ERP/MRP system that works well with Revit.

You may want to take a close look at our solution:http://elmosolutions.com/leader-cad-erp-data-integration-solutions/products/agni-link/

It offers a wide choice of connectors for Autodesk Vault, Revit, Inventor, as well as most flavors of AutoCAD.

Hope this helps,
