I cant seem to open a file that I created a day ago. the message says there has been an unrecoverable error. The program will be terminated. & then Revit shuts down. there is a preview of the job Im trying to open but very frustrating to not be able to get at it. If i had a similar problem with autocad I always tried inserting the file into another file as a block & sometimes this would work. I dont appear to have a backup file for this drawing - are they only produced with worksets? thanks for any help... i dont want to have to do this job all over again from scratch.

Hi Leeroy, Revit automatically creates a backup file each time you save. The amount it keeps is set in your save options. Backup files are distinguishable by their extention: File-001.rvt (backup) File-002.rvt (backup) File.rvt (current) With worksets you have the additional ability to roll back files both for the central and the local file. I'd suggest opening the file with an audit. Start revit and click the audit option. Hopefully it should resolve the error. If not send the file to autodesk support via the subscription centre. They will recover your file. Alternatively it is also possible to recover your file from journals files. HTH.

Mr spot, thanks for your help. I do have two backup files but they both behave in exactly the same way that the current file does & the computer shuts down when I try to open them. the file is too large to email (26Mb) - do you have any hints for reducing the size of Revit files?.... Ive tried auditing but it doesnt do any good. I'm not sure what to do next. cheers Leeroy
