I have the same ceiling material in these two rooms. Why does the hatch look different?

You say it is the same but is it ?

Revit does whet you tell it to.  Check your materials.

Other possibility is one was 'painted', or a VG over-ride.

What options?

I said verify the material is correct.  It doesn't matter that you call it gyp.   THE SAME EXACT MATERIAL must be used for each ceiling.   Is it the same ceiling family?  If yes then goto the next item, if no, change one of them to the same ceiling and look again.  If they are now the same then something is wrong with the material used.

I said verify the finish was not painted with something else.  Paint the both ceilings with 'default'.

I said check to see if there were any over-rides.

Are you uing phases and failed to tell us?  << This is probably NOT your issue.
