I am using Revit Architecture 2013.

i have a 2 storey portion of a building that i want to stretch away from the rest of the building.  if i am in the first floor plan, i cannot grab the furniture and interior walls on the second floor so everything moves together.  the second floor is a copy of the first.   if i am in a 3D view, it will not allow me to move everything in the direction i want to pull it, even with "constraints" turned off.  i have tried turning the second floor on as an underlay, but it still does not allow me to select all the elements on both floors.  is there a way to select everything on both floors so i can move them?

You will have problems with your process.  Can we ask why you want to do this?  There may be a better solution.

after review of the original layout, the client wants to add space to the core, but keep the wings the same, so i want to move the wings away from the core so that the core can be stretched.

I think what your are planning will only give you trouble.  And, if I understand you correctly, you will have to move these same elements back later on.

Many objects in Revit can span and often do span across level boundaries.  Exterior walls are typically one of those elements as well as stair and elevator walls and elevator shafts.  Sometimes users group elements that belong to different levels and that too can cause problems.

If you have set up your views correctly, you should be able to move items on the one level from your plan view.  Obviously, the exterior walls will have to be split horizontally to enable moving the lower portion only or maybe you should copy these to your new location first and change their height, then set the originals to start at the second level instead of the first.
