The other day i was thinking it would be nice to show others what 3d Models I can easily create in Revit.  However if one knows nothing about the CAD environment I think it would be nice to be able to let them play around in Google Sketch-Up as the program is very easy to work with (my opinion).  Also as far as i know Sketch-Up is a free program that anyone can access especially if your not a student of any kind.  All AutoDesk program downloads are free if you possess a school email account, but i dont think this is always an effective route to go for laypersons.

Please let me know if Revit ever intends to make an export compatible with Sketch-up.  As this would be bees-nees Smile Thanks

Autodesk controls Revit - not us.  I doubt that they would ever change Revit to export to skp files but id oes import them and it will export to CAD.

You can, but I would advise against it. The model gets very complicated. It exports a lot of layers but you will lose the textures.

Autodesk has free viewers.

The workflow I like to use goes as follows:

I got into a 3D view, I select only the Types of objects I want to export (e.g. walls, doors, stairs..etc), you can also use the filter option to make sure you've only selected what you want.

I then Isolate those categories, using the "glasses" option down at the bottom.

I then export as a DXF, making sure to leave the Isolation mode on.

When you import into SU, you have options to join the surfaces.

It's not the most native way to do it, but it has worked very nicely for me.

Best of luck.
