I've created a curtain wall panel that is acting as a storefront unit that repeats throughout a facade I'm working on. I've set the visibility in the family such that symbolic lines for, in this case a door swing, appear only when instance is cut. Other elements are set to display only when instances are cut as well. However, once in the project, Revit is disobeying these rules and not displaying anything depending on where the family is cut. Items with identical visibility settings in the family are not being treated equally for some reason. Does anyone have any insight on how to get this to work? Thanks.

You created this whole element as one curtain panel - why? In this case, the panel (the whole thing) is cut!

You are better off to use real curtain walls with panels and doors.

I understand that. It worked better to be a curtain panel in this instance because it could populate several conditions with varying widths across a thusand feet of facade. Using curtainwall components would require modeling more of essentially the same thing dozens of times. In this case that would still be true even if done as model groups which I'm hoping to avoid. What is really needed is a way parameterize a model group that contains the curtainwall components so there's no issue with visibility and can fit all the variable conditions. Do you have a suggestion for another process?

It can't be one panel!  Revit applies its rules correctly.  You are cutting the panel show the lines will show.

If I had multiple instances of the same condition, I would have had multiple CW's ... copied into multiple locations or even grouped.  Not sure why you want to avoid that.

I get the panel limitation. Groups wont do anything for me, because based on the limitation in the rules, I would have to create every instance of that unit as unique with curtain wall components anyway. There are about 9 different conditions times the changing relationship to grade. Groups cant handle that variability. The idea was to create a flexible family that would be able to be applied more efficiently with the ability to update all instances readily without having to model every single instance just so the display would work. I guess it would be cool if groups could evolve to have system families responsive to parameterized characteristics like families do. How about breaking up the curtain wall into two panels - top and bottom with the appropriate symbolic representation when cut applied to seperate familes. Do you think that would help?

Groups don't have to stay grouped.   As a matter of fact, groups can be trouble so many times I ungroup after initial placement.  I do the same with stacked walls.  I use the group/stack for initial placement then ungroup/unstack so I can modify in place.

I know what you mean. Well, I'm going to have to noodle a little more on this process for these conditions I'm working on. Thanks for clarifying those points about how the cutting of curtain panels is treated. I really wish Revit understood the cut relative to the whole object though. Unless there is a way to parameterize the levels within the family itself? Probably not. In the end I suppose the whole thing makes "Revit Sense." More work ahead for me!
