Hello all,

I've got a small scale house project that I'm doing that is rather simple in the modeling aspect so I thought I'd try a few things I normally don't tend to model or would normally just cover somewhere else in the contract documents.  Anyhow, I've divided my exterior wall into parts to give it a try for once and everything has went fairly smooth along with knowledge I've gained from this site and around the net.  I have however just ran into a problem that I've yet to solve.  Hopefully something easy that I'm overlooking but you just never know do you?  Once dividing the exterior wall into parts I have pulled the brick ledge down to the top of the 12" cmu and all is well with the exception of the door areas.  How do I get the brick below the door.  I'm sure one could just draw a small brick only wall underneath and then join geometry but I'm thinking there is probably a proper way to do this that I'm not aware of.  I cant seem to find anywhere to edit the wall profile once I've parted out the wall?  Any advice on how you guys attack this would be appreciated.  Please see the attached image for a visual.

Thanks again.

I believe parts are way too complicated for this problem.  In most cases, I simply unlock the wall layer and pull that down but  it will conflict with the foundation wall unless it has a void shelf.  the first image below.

Instead, you can do one of the following:

  1. split the foundation wall horizontally at the bottom of the brick and have two foundation wall types.
  2. Edit the fdn wall properties adding a brick sweep to the top of your foudation wall as I have done in the attached image.
  3. Edit the fdn wall type splitting the wall and changing the materials either above or below the sweep
  4. You can also add a void sweep to cut the fdn then a brick sweep to add the brick.

I prefer 1 or 2.

Understood, thanks for the reply.  I agree with the parts being too complicated to create this.  I'm very novice with parts so I figured a small project like this may would be a good one to tinker with.  I've for whatever reason never even thought about adding a sweep to the foundation wall at the ledge.  I just went in like you suggested on #2 below and created a profile and ran the sweep as brick around the foundation wall and it worked perfectly.  Once again thanks for the help WWHub.  Sometimes you just need another set of eyes to look at things.  Much appreciated sir, problem solved!

How about unlocking the brick layer, pulling it down and joining both walls.
