Hello,
I have placed customized casewoork families (base cabinets) into my project, and placed a sink ontop of the countertop above these base cabinets... the sink cuts through the countertop as it should although the sink does not cut through the cabinets... so I figured I would model an in place generic family (void extrusion) then use the cut tool to cut through the cabinets but this has not worked.. Im not sure how I can cut through this family.. If someone can provide help it would be much appreciated.

Check your HELP - search cuttable families.

I have already done this, casework is considered a cuttable family.

Sorry - I did not read your original post correctly.
Your sink is obviously hosted to the face of the counter and it has a void to cut its host. BUT - that is all it can cut - just the host. You would have to add a void to cut the cabinet or use the correct cabinet - a sink base.
Your model in place should have been set to casework as well and the void should have been part of that family.

No problem, your help is very much apprecated.
So modelled the in place void extrusion under the casework category but it still didn't cut. Also I realize that I can create a void extrusion in the edit family mode of the base cabinet family although this would cause the family to load with the void everytime unless I saved it as a seperate family. Im just trying to avoid these kind of work arounds if possible. Is there any other suggestion you may have that I could try in oder to cut this casework family within the project itself?

As I said, a sink base would have been better. Did you know there are a lot of AWWS cabinets on the Autodesk SEEK site?
If you modeled in place and added the void before you closed the model in place, then the void would have cut. You must have a process error here.
You should be able to create a face based void family that you place on your regular cabinet to cut that but it needs to be on the cabinet - not the counter. The attached image has a face based void (picked in blue) that I placed on the side of this stock cabinet.

I realize a sink based cabinet would have been best and I would have used one if the kitchen I am modelling didn't have a sink spaned over an unconventional base cabinet that has 3 doors. Instead of modelling a custom cabinet I just used a typical 2 door and a 1 door based cabinet and decided to simply cut the cabinets.. although cutting them has proved to not be as simple.
After clicking model in place, selecting the casework category family, then creating a void extrustion set to the plane of the top of the base cabinets, then extending the void below the top to cut it, and then selecting finsh model. Nothing cut. Also I tried using the cut tool, tried selecting the void then the cabinet (cabinet would not select) this failed too... I would very much like to cut in project without creating a family first if possible.. Is there a way to select a face based category in order to model inplace in project?..
Because I have followed your instructions with creating a face based void family outside of the project then loaded into the project, hosted it to the top of the cabinet then flipped its orientation so it was below the top face of the cabinet then used the cut tool and this DID infact work within the project.. Thank you for the suggestion.

Your model in-place process appears to be in error. For future reference, the void does not cut automatically. You need to select what is to be cut by the void while still in the model-in-place.
