I made a section view that cuts through a stair. I want the railings in the background to appear halftone so that they still show up, but don't interfere with the railings in the foreground (and so it gives a bit of depth perception). Since there's no "View Range" option in a section view like there is for a plan view, I tried using the Linework tool to change all the background railings to the <Beyond> linestyle.

The problem is, all of the lines I change with the Linework tool show up in front of the stairs and railings in the foreground. Is this a Revit glitch? I've attached a screenshot below.

When you use the linework tool, you will see a blue grip on each end for adjustment.   You may have to use this tool for each length of railing.   Not an easy process in this application.

A semi-transparent object, like mass, would work. Override its transparency by element in section view and keep its global visibility off, except in section view.

You could also do that part of the railing as a separate railing and then just override it to halftone.
