Hi,

I have not been able to find an answer to this but perhaps someone here could help give a definitive answer.

I need to create a pump sump family but I need it to have it so that if the floor slab that will host the family is sloped then the top of the walls of the sump adjust accordingly to the slope of the foor slab. The sump itself should remain vertical with a defined depth from the centre of the sump opening.

Similarly I am having the same issue with a concrete base for a pump. the top of the concrete base should remain horizontal but the bottom should adjust accordingly to the slope of the floor slab.

if any further info required just ask.

What do I need to do to achieve this functionality?

any help appreciated.

thanks

OK.... This was a fun challange.  I'm not sure I would have done this as a family.  I think it would be far easier to do this with walls, floor and a void family to cut the walls and all of that grouped together but I did it as a family to see if it could be done.

Below are the proof images that it works.  But there are severe limitations to this.

  1. The family has to be modified to have the correct floor thickness in the family.
  2. The family has to be 'square' with the slope of the floor
  3. The family has to be rotated correctly to match the floor slope

I have included the family too but it is pure junk.  I only include it so you might study it to start thinking about the process.

  • The solids are NOT parametric.
  • I used a void to cut the slab hole and the sump hole....again - not parametric.
  • I used another void to cut the sump sides off at the bottom of the slab.   not parametric except for the angle
  • You can not rotate a reference plane so I used a reference line with an instance parameter to control the angle of the void cut.   You have to measure the bottom angle of the sab and enter that data in the family properties.

So... fun to see what happens but I would recommend not doing this.  Try creating as I said above.  Once grouped, the group can be placed then ungrouped to make adjestments.  Groups can be saved to your library.

hi feargt

my suggestion is pretty straight forward:

just create any parametric family you would require. see attached family from WWHub. making it fully parametric.

I just added the OFFSET parameter from the face.

after loading the family to ur sloped slab... you dont need to calculate or know the ANGLE, SLAB THICKNESS or CORRECT ORIENTATION..

just offset it abit inside the slab (eat-in inside the slab)  and use JOIN command to finish it of.

thanks for suggestions WWHub and ronmalit, I knew there had to be some workarounds that I could use. I will look at both in more detail over the weekend to see which is most suited and most beneficial for me. But i have plenty of food for thought there. Thanks
