The centerline symbol shows up above the tick mark when automatically used in the dimension type (Linear w/ center).

Is there a way to have it placed below the tick mark? It would make dimensioning much faster if I could get that to work.

There is not way to move the location to below but why would you want it below the tic?  If it was below it would be in the extension line.

We typically do locate the centerline symbol on the extension line. One advantage to it is that it allows us to keep the multiple dimension lines closer together on sheets where there is little room to spare. There is no legibility lost by having it on the extension line, so why not?

Thanks for the answer. I will continue to label them as we have been.

You may try editing the CL family and move it below the reference plane intersection. I know for detail components that the intersection is the insertion point.  Revit may insert the CL family at the tick mark. Worth at try a guess.

Not sure if this would work just saw your post and thought of it.

Be aware that if you want this to work you will need 2 centreline symbols and 2 dimension styles.

Revit places the centreline symbol at different locations if the dimension is above or below (and left or right) of the dimension target.

This is even more problematic on ordinate dimensions
