***EDIT: Simple Version of this question. Can a family type parameter have a formula?

I recently discovered that when you have a detail item nested in a family you can give it a parameter that bascially allows the detail item to be swapped out with any other loaded detail component that is loaded in the family. Pretty cool to me, but I want more......My question is has anyone been able to get formulas to work with this parameter. I was wanting to use an if statement to get Revit to display different detail components. For example, I wanted to add this parameter to the "Glass Left" parameter.

if(Insulated Glass, Curtain Wall Glass : Insulated, Curtain Wall Glass : Uninsulated)

Also, does anyone know what the intended purpose of this parameter is?

Thanks,
