Hi there,

I am working on a large scale steel framed structure where the steel beams have been set out by the bottom of the beam. At the column intersections I want to align the top of column with the top of beams.

This is possible with adding a reference plane which is set out from the top of the beams and then attaching the top of the column to the reference plane.

However, as soon as you change the beam sizes ssay from a 203 to a 254 section, the top of beam level increases in height by 50mm (approx.) and as such the column no longer is attached to the top of the beam.

Is there a way of attaching the column to the top of steel beams, whilst the beams themselves are set out by the bottom of steel?

See attached screenshot highlighting my problem.

Many Thanks in advance for those that manage to solve this conundrum!

James Gregory

What about aligning and locking the reference plane to the top of the beam.

The beam top flange moves, then the reference plane moves then the top of the column moves.
