I have found in other threads how to change the ceiling/wall/floor finishes to multiple rooms using the schedules (very helpful - thanks to all who contribute).  One thing I still wonder however is whether it is possible to alter the name of a finish without revit automatically deleting the finish and creating a new one?

Example - I have a ceiling finish entitled 'Redecorate Existing Boards, Rafters + Purlins' but I would like to rename it to 'Redecorate Existing Sarking, Rafters + Purlins'.  Each time I try, Revit deletes the first and applies a new random colour to the 'new' finish.  Is there a way to avoid this so I do not have to reset the colour to fit in the scheme each time my superior changes his mind about the nomenclature?  I hope the question is clear.

Running Revit 2013 on Windows 7.

Thanks

Excuse my density, WWII, but are you saying I should not go about it this way, or that I am simply missing a 'rename' command?  I'd be very happy to learn it was that simple!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Oh dear... I may have this wrong on so many fronts!  I have been assigning finishes which are not yet associated to materials.

I have just tried to access the finishes through the material editor (like in your image?), but they're not there.  I fear I have either not explained well at all, or I am doing this wrong.  Please see images:

OK.... Now I understand.

You have a schedule parameter in rooms called "Ceiling finish".  This has nothing to do with materials - it is just text.  When you have a value in this field, revit will show that same value in the drop down.  The drop down list is made up from all schedule lines in that column.   When you go to fill in that column in another room, you can pick from the drop-down list or add something completely new. If you change all of the fields in this column that had a particular value to something else, the old information will no longer be available in the drop down list.  You removed it - not revit.

We do not yet have a way a parametrically assigning finishes to rooms from materials.  That is why you use simple text in a room schedule.

WWHub,

Thanks for all your replies.  You have just confirmed what I was afraid of.  Oh well it is not a big deal in the big scheme of things, but just one of the many little frustrating aspects of Revit that I am finding...

Don't know why I wrote WWII above... must be losing my mind.

Cheers for the help!

I don't know why this would be frustrating.  What program does what you want?  NONE!  There are too many good things in Revit for you to complain about something that is not available elsewhere.
