Detail views dont allow elevations for some sill reason.  Revit restricts this abilit (which i think is a real pain that they turn off features for different views, does not make sense to me, but they do.)

Solution:  Copy the floorplan of which you want to have the detail plan.  Rename the copy "detail plan of (room, bathroom ,etc)".  change the scope box to the area of the detailed plan view.  Then go into the original plan and place a callout, referencing the floor plan that you just created.  I do this for all bathroom plans, stair plans, etc. because I want to be able to tag elevations within the detailed plan.  Also, when you change the scale of the detailed plan, you can select your elevation tags within that view, and tell them to not show up in coarser view scales than the one you are in, if you want to avoid showing thoes tags in the main view.

Essentially you need to create a new floor plan because Revit does not allow you to place elevations within detail views.

Let me know if this works.

You can do as RevitMaestro says or simply set your callout to floor plan instead of detail when you create it.  That is a choice.

Oh, this is an option!  I've been doing things a few extra steps and got used to doing it that way.  I remember that its because if you create the detail plan view in that way, using the detail bubble to create the new detail plan, you cannot independently control the scope box of the detail, it is exactly in line with the reference bubble.  I sometimes like to show a little bit of context in my detail plan, for example, a bathroom plan, i like to show surrounding construction, but i want to keep the detail bubble from flying over those adjacent spaces within the plan.

See attached screen shot of floor plan, and detailed bathroom plan, notice that the scope of the detailed bathroom plan extends beyond the reference bubble as it appears in plan.

thanks for the quick response.. i think i'm just going to remake the view as a plan and copy all my detailing info back into it. to bad you can change view types from detail to plan. that would make a whole lot of sense..

Revitmaestro - but you have to use the reference other view option if you use a bubble - correct?

Yes, you still have to go back to the plan and use the "reference other" option.  again, just a funny habit i formed so that you can control the detail bubble independently of the detail plan view scope box.

Didn't mean to confuse a simple question.  sorry.
