Greetings,

I am tagging some interior office walls. The tags show the same finish on both sides of the walls but the wall finish is different on either side. I realise that if I create a copy of the wall and simply change the finish then the tags should (in theory) display the correct finish. However, there are a lot of wall finishes and combinations, I don't want to unecessarily create a load of variations as this will have an effect on the 'wall type' detail drawing.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks,

CM.

If the wall is the same basic material and thus shows the same in cut section such as GYP BD / painted, then I woluld split the wall surface where applicable and paint on the material (color).  The real question is, "Does this have to be modeled?"  If you want an accurate BIM model with quantities or if it shows in renderings, then yes - and do the splitface.  If NO, then do a dumb tag or use an invisible family tag.

We only use invisible (IDF) families for interior finish tags.  A detail family that has an invisible line to make it taggable then shared parameters to hold the tag value.  We use type based so they can be mass changed.
