Hi I'm using Revit Architecture 2012.

For standard council plans in Australia the elevation of neighbours properties need to be shown with the correct shadows cast from the main building.

But in Revit once an elevation is set up that doesn't include the main building, the shadows are also not included. An 3d view is not acceptable.

How can I cast shadows of the main building onto the neighbours in an elevation?

A function is desperately needed which would allow the elavtion to be positioned within the whole of the layout with shadows passing through the elevation line. All that is needed is a reverse boundry. The 'no clip' image in far clipping looks like it would do it but doesn't.

Such a tool also needs to be roated to true north so that the shadows are correct.

I'm so frustrated that there isn't a solution to what must be a problem for every Architect in Australia relying on Revit to produce basic drawings for council.

Please help!

just make an elevaintion with 3d view.

in 3d view you can make shadow appears you know.

and basic 3d view(not perspective with camera) you can make it seems like an elevation with click a facade you want at a view qube on the upper right on the screen.

I'm trying to get shadows on the neighbours wall so the problem with an elevation in 3d view is that the main building in the way.

Revit can't provide the shadows I'm trying to do even through they're basic.

I'm trying to find a workaround. Best option so far is making the entire main building from translucent plastic but it will still be a messy result.

in that case, i think there's no way to get shadow without modeling neghbours walls at least very simply

if i were you, i'd make neighbors walls withou any details and clean white, and get image with shadow on the walls, and combine it with 2d elevation image of neighbours elevation. it can be done in a  sheet in revit, or with tools like photoshop.

Yes I do know that. Problem is the main house is in the way. I can't see the neighbours wall through the main house.

The SOLUTION is to make the main house out of a translucent material. Move the section line to the middle of the main house. You can now see the shadows on the neighbours wall. Trace the outline by eye with detail lines. Then move then section line back to between the two buildings. Fill the outline of the shadow!

A bit of a pain but still it's a solution.
