I have a site survey map with countours and coordinates. I want to import that and make a terrain model (toposurface) and design houses/buildings. First I tried importing the survey drawing as is (True North), and then, rotated the project north in plan views etc. This worked fine until I noticed that the shadows may be cast incorrectly when I rendered...
So next, I tried rotating the survey drawing first, and then imported into Revit. For the site plan, I used Project North. But this way, you lose the true coordinates.
What is the proper way to do this?

You should always begin drawing your building/site the way in which you want to document it.
Once you are concerned with the direction of True North you can then use the "Rotate True North" command to tell revit where North is (note you'll need to have the view set to true north in order to do this).
Import the survey, drawing then rotate it to the orientation you wish to document it in (take note of how much you rotated it by). Then use the Rotate True North to rotate it back to advise Revit where north is.
