Anyone have any good solutions to keep an element's keynote from changing? I know this is a user issue but inevitably this keeps happening at our firm. We go through the final push of a project and at the very last minute someone changes an element keynote. This may be because a keynote arrow was inadvertently pointing to another object or they may be thinking they are changing a user note, etc. Just like that, the element keynote changes on all the drawings and the person never realizes what they just did. They just know the one detail they were working on now "appears" to be noted correctly but in reality they just made all the other details/sections with that element incorrect. It would be great if you could "lock" an element's keynote value. I just don't think that is possible. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim

We all share this pain initially.  The best solution is to make your users responsible.  It is a poor practice for users to not look at what they have picked.  It will always tell them if it is text.

Although we don't do this, you might look at not using the keynote text but the keynote number that picks the text from your keynote file.  THAT can not be edited while from inside the project.

We use the keynote number method and unfortunately it still happens... a user selects a different keynote number from the list and the component's number changes everywhere without them realizing what they just did.  I just want to beat my head against the wall sometimes because I explain this over and over but to no avail... it's usually either a seasoned architect who doesn't quite totally understand Revit or a co-op/intern who is just learning the production side of revit.

You can't defend against irresponsibility - only stupidity.  You fire for irresponsibility - you train those that are stupid.  This is a big enough problem that you have to make the users aware of the consequences.
