I made a group for the exterior skin that repeats on about 6 floors of my building. The building got 2'6" longer and when i go to edit the group, i cant because of the error message. any idea why?

Selection cannot be copied.

Mullions and panels cannot be copied without copying the entire curtain wall.

I think that error message is self explanitory.  Don't copy or group CW elements - just copy or group the wall.

if it was that self explanitory i wouldnt have asked.

all thats grouped are the walls. not the pieces of the curtaiwall.

i dont get any errors when i select the group. its only when i go to move the curtainwall or if i try to edit the group and add a new mullion, then try to save it, i cant, i get the same error message.

i even ungrouped it, reselected just the walls again to make sure. then tried to edit it again and got the same message

Are you using "automatic" curtain walls or "manual".  (Are your spacings set in the CW definition).

How do you add a mullion?  What is your process?

I don't know why you would want to copy a gridline - but you can.  BUT - You can't copy a grid line and a mullion.  If you use that process, you generate the error in question.
