I'm building a series of trimmers that are face based, I've set the length to be an instance parameter locked to a reference plane. Due to being an instance parameter Revit allows me to control the length with a grip in any view perpendicular to the plane.
I've noticed that when you create a model in place element it allows all grips available to be used in 3D views, is there a way of getting a family to behave in the same way so that all grips for instances are shown and usable in 3D views, (It would reduce my work time massively if i could edit in 3D rather than having to create views to edit the trimmers.
Thanks for any help.

Not that I know of and no change in 2013 from what I can tell.
I get the feeling that when a reference plan becomes accessable in a 3D view thats when the grips will start to show up.

Yeah I just don't get why they are available on system families and model in place elements which are in theory built in the exact same way as a standard family. It just seems logical that grips should be available. All Revit needs to do is know what plane the extrusion was built on and "push and pull" from that plane.
Maybe needs sticking on the wish list for 2014

I totally agree. It can't be that difficult. Easy wish list fix.
