can someone please explain how to make swirls on a candy cane? I can model the candy cane but cannot figure out how to do the swirls

Go to Google 3D Warehouse and search Candycane.  That is your easiest solution.  Otherwise you would have to create a material which seems like it would be tricky, I haven't tried to get that effect ever

After playing for a minute and finding a picture to crop/edit I came up with something like this.  Not perfect but only took a couple minutes so it could be perfected.

thank you for your reply...I figured it out...I made a pattern in microsoft paint and applied it to the model...it took some adjusting but finally got it to match up...there's got to be an easier way to do this. The way i wanted to do it was thru an extrusion or sweep.

materials are the easy way. i have seen some uvw mapping abilities in 2013 that makes it a little easier but its an inconsistant interface from what ive seen. the difficult yet somewhat fun way of doing it is in the conceptual massing enviroment using "spline through points"
