I'm doing a school project and trying to use a WT22x167.5 beam as a column. Obviously Revit doesn't want me to turn the beam vertically, but is there an easy way to do this, even if it requries editing the family?

I would just create a new column family that hs that particular size in it.  I would not use a beam as a column, thats asking for trouble in the long run.
