I've downloaded a Revit fence family file. How can I use this as a railing?
When I open the Type properties box on railings I cant click the "Load" box, it's faded.

What did you download? If you downloaded the railing you can just use insert, find the family you downloaded and load it into the project, when you go to create a railing just change the type in the type properties pull down.

This might be a lot easier for you. Goto this site http://revit.autodesk.com/library/archive2009/html/index.html
And pick the metric samples then dowload the fences.
