Does anyone know why the type of connections that this f.. revit mep 2012 does, doesn't behave the simple and logic way one expects?

In the "advance sample project" provided by Revit, there are plenty of elbow connections that look real, logic and rational, (as seen in the attached image) but if I try to reproduce one, the result is totally different and annoyingly irrational (stupid) and illogical: different type of elbow, the diameter says it is the correct one, but appears smaller. And I just copied the pipes without the elbow and make a trim. Or am I the stupid? Please, help needed.

make sure you have all the fittings loaded for said pipe and I have found it useful to set work planes especially when you start putting things on slopes, and off angles. If you name the workplanes you can use framing elevation to snap to the workplane to aid in drawing. I usually look at the 3D view to find problems, this sometimes helps, also if the building has been set up off square to views then the automatic connectors sometimes have problems.
