You are right you will not be able to add annotation with arrows in your family.  If you are trying to convert all of your offices old details into Revit your best option is to not put them into families.  You should create a new project and create a new drafting view for each detail and keep ALL of your details in that one project (you can add annotation with arrows in a project).  You will name each drafting view differently (the name is what the detail is of) and this way you will have all of your details in one area.  Once you need a detail in a project that you are workin on you will go to the INSERT tab of the project you are working in>INSERT FROM FILE pulldown>INSERT VIEWS FROM FILE and seach for the location of the project that has all of your details in and it will bring up a dialog box with all of the names of your details that you have drawn and you can check the box to bring in the details that you want.

sry teafoe5 didnt see your response till now, i will have to try that process, i just thought it would be easier to save all the different details as a family then just insert it them into a project sheet whenever i needed. I guess Revit wont allow me to do that. Ok i will try your process and get back to you. Thanks

Good Luck!  It can be a tedious process taking the YEARS of compiled CAD details and turning them into Revit but it is very worth the time and effort.  This is a great forum to ask questions you just cannot find an answer to, just make sure you do a little research on your own first or someone is going to tell you to just look in your help Winking
