Hey everyone. I am in Revit 2012 and have a  series of pitched, intersecting roofs that is mirrored exactly on the opposite side of building. I grouped 1 side of the roofs so that i would not have to duplicate work when refining them. The problem is that the Join Roof tool is greyed out while in group edit mode. Is there any way around this?  The same thing goes with dormers- I have a repeated, typical dormer in my project, so i created the dormer and then made it a group, but when i copy it over to another roof, the dormer roof unjoins from the primary roof, and it is unable to join back without ungrouping it. I sort of understand why the dormer would act this way because it is a group trying to be applied to different conditions,  but for the main roofs i dont understand why the join tool is no longer allowed when roofs are grouped.

Any way around these issues or advise on another way to model these repeated things only once?

Thanks!

Are you sure you are clicking in the "Join/Unjoin roof" tool?

I don't like the roof join tool for this reason among others. Too often it can't be relied on to work, it breaks without explanation...

I usually give my dormers a full footprint of their own. A quick way to do this is to copy/past a new dormer in the same place as the existing joined dormer, edit the footprint, and "pick line" on the existing dormer's join lines to get the same geometry--but concrete.
