Hi -

I'm learning how to apply basic parametric modeling to a generic window template, using an otherwise excellent PDF tutorial from D|C|CADD. After modeling the void for an opening, when I follow directions to create a "Lintel and Sill Thickness" parameter, the parameter is created, but when I then attempt as directed to enter the term "Veneer Thickness +1" in the formula cell, Revit halts the action with a message that "The following is not a valid family parameter: Veneer Thickness." This leaves me stuck on the tender beginnings of my journey in Revit parametrics. Checked spelling and case-sensitive values... I'm guesssing that there may be a different way to describe "veneer thickness" between publication of this tutorial in 2011, and the current 2012 Revit I'm using.

Any suggestions from someone vastly more experienced tnan I? I wouldn't know what tree to bark up at this stage of my infancy.

Attached is a screenshot of the tutorial (left) and my Revit results (right).

Thanks if anyone can help!

You have to have Veneer Thickness parameter in there first before doing equation and it is not.

Hi to whomever helped me out with this reply -

Sorry for the long time lag in responding -- I let that task cool off for awhile, but am hoping to return to it.

I'm a beginner to parametrics, so I'm not sure how to get a Veneer Thickness parameter in there in the first place (I'm following cues from a tutorial which skips that part). Have you got a minute to give me a nudge in the right direction?

Thanks!

Read your HELP on parameters.

Also - download the families guide from the autodesk site.

Hi WWHUb -

Sounds like it's a pretty basic and fundamental operation that I ought to pull into my own 101. Just downloaded the guide + tutorials and will back up to completing them before I go back to this window task. Thanks for the guidance.

MM
