I have been trying to render a 4 level model of a house. When i went to render with Raytrace the ground level of the image is cut off at the bottom of the 1st level, anything below level 1 is shown as a solid gray block, including the site toporaphy. I have played around with cameras in all levels and also with cut planes to no avail. Has anyone got some ideas as to how to fix this problem?

I think your problem is that you have the groudplane option turned on which is located in the render design tab under settings. Once you are in settings click on the environment button, and you should see a check box nex to something that says ground plane. Unlick that and I think that will fix the problem.

it does seem like you have the ground plane set at level 1... do as fefifophil suggested and tell us if it's fixed.

I tried playing with the ground plane byt nothing happens, ive also tried altering the levels of my project and also changing view ranges in each of my floor plans but nothing seems to work. Is it possible that a surface pattern has been made in my model and is mow causing this? ive searched for any rogue surface patterns or flat topography but once again nothing seems to work!

Half Way There!!! The grey plane is the 'ground plane'. I realised this when i changed the ground plane's properties from the grey colour to a grass material. So now i have a plane of grass cutting through my model. When i change the height of the ground plane however there is no effect on the height of the plane in the rendered scene. Is there another way to change the ground plane's height other than in the render settings dialogue box? Thanks for the help so far. AGCD Christchurch, New Zealand (with lots of cloud)

Problem solved! in the render sceen settings dialogue box unclick the "Use Sun and Shadow Settings from view" box. its positioned underneath the Environment button. Attached is a .jpg of the project ive been slaving over (its still a work in progress) unhindered by the ground plane. Thanks again to all those who gave advice, agcd Christchurch New Zealand

There are two locations for setting ground planes... Make sure they are turned off in both locations. Renderings settings & Advanced model Graphics.

Yep thats all i did. Make sure that your ground plane is turned off aswell as clicking the box under environment. You could also go into the ground plane settings and put its elevation to a height under the lowest level your model is on eg. -5000mm
