I'm designing a new house with Revit 2012 and part of the house is underground.
I need to create a building pad, but I don't want it to go all the way to the surface.
Is there any way to adjust the settings of the building pad tool, or is there another
way of creating a "void" under the ground.

There isn't a good way of making a tunnel or similar earth feature. Building pads will drop an extrusion straight down, as you know. But you can't cut out a range of dirt. IE, from pad A to pad B.
The reason being, topography is a 2D surface. There's no actual depth to earth, in revit. A hatch is automatically faked in for sections and 3D views, but nothing actually exists for revit to cut. ultimately, all buildings are floating in space. My suggestion is to add in an earth hatch manually with a 2D filled region in the sections where it is applicable.
