Our office is working on implementing revit. In order to do so we need to understand how to create the underside of the attached stair seamlessly. It is a staple of numerous residential projects we do and has to be done perfectly. Right now there are two small steps where the stair transitions from straight to curved winder. Please see the attached images and rvt file. It has been a struggle to get to something that works well. I've been tinkering with the stair settings, tried to do a custom handrail profile that follows the stair centerline and just about every combination of stair setting I can think of.

This one I think i don't understand and where is the RVT file so we can check? " tried to do a custom handrail profile that follows the stair centerline and just about every combination of stair setting I can think of." - create your railing like you want and click on "Pick new host" and select the stair.

My understanding is that you want the underside of the stair to be perfectly continuous and not have a slight stepdown at the point where the staircase changes from being linear to curved. A .rvt file would be great so that we can see everything in greater detail, and possibly work out a solution for you.

Attached is the rvt file. It should have some keys as to what's going on. Typhoon: That is the method i used. i basically tried to create a handrial down the centerline of the stair. i picked the stair as a host and created a rectangular profile that was exactly the width of the stair. i was hoping that it would simply overlay the bottom of the stair and smooth things out, but in fact it followed the same jump in the bottom of the stair. this little jump is also causing problems with the railing transitions from the diagonal of the stair to the curve of the winders.
