I've got Revit 2011 installed on my computer and need to drop in some 'readymade' furniture off websites. Only problem is that these files are either 3DS files or DXF files. I do not have AutoCAD or any other 3D programs installed, so cannot open and change the type of file that they are.

What is the best way to go about getting these files into a format whereby I can open them in Revit? Do they need to be saved as .rvt files or what? I notice there is no 'IMPORT' selection in Revit.....

If I need to download some kind of program to do this, please let me know,

 Thanks!

DXF can be imported through the Insert > Link CAD > Choose Cad File then select DXF from the file type in the import dialog.

I don't have Revit in front of me but I'm pretty sure you can still not directly import 3DS into revit.  You will need to export from 3DS to either DWG, DXF, ADSK or there's another option that I'm failing to remember right now.  I'll check it later when I'm making my videos.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
