Anyone who has played around with RST has seen this error:

Can't make type "K-Series Bar Joist-Rod Web : 26K8". (see image below)

This happens with wood web joists as well as steel web joists.

What this error should say is 'Joist length is too short to retain the correct webbing".

This is caused because the span of the joist is too short in comparison to the joist depth.

The way the families are made there needs to be a minimum amount of web 'zig zag' at each end of the joist and if theres not enough room to do so you get the error. This can be fixed by making the joist depth less deep ie: change from a 26" dp joist to 14" etc. but there is no know workaround that I know of to make the joist length really short and still retain the webbing.

Editing the family is probably the best workaround...

Sometimes you have to make the default length in the family larger to accomodate.

Otherwise you shouldn't be using a joist for that short of spans...
