I have a ceiling that's covered with hundreds of rectangular metal panel. Those metal panel all comes from 1 single family. Now, I have columns which penetrate through the metal panel ceiling at various location. Which mean I have a handful of irregular shaped metal panels (they are of various shapes too). i dont want to create custome family for each of these irregular metal panels. However, if I am able to create a VOID in the main project file and have them cut through these imported family. It will get my job done. How can I do that? Any other suggestion as to how to approach this type of problem other than using VOID? I am using Revit 2010. Thank you.

Hey--this post is old enough that you might not check for a response, but here's what you woudl want to do... I think. You'll want to create an in-place family, in the same category as your ceiling panels. Model an extrusion in the profile of your column. Finish the extrusion, and position it so it overlaps the ceiling... (it won't cut it yet, and if you click "finish" it will tell you that the void doesn't cut anything and will be discarded) now go to cut geometry, and select the void, and then the ceiling panels. This will cut them, and now you can finish the family. Hope that helps.
