I created a 8 panel pocket door from a standard Revit pocket door in two widths, and am not able to insert it into a project without receiving an error message. I would like to get this resolved before adding more details to the door panels.

Your family has errors in it. When I tried to flex it within the family editor I kept getting "base sketch for extrusion is invalid". Most family problems can be found in the family editor by flexing the family to find the errors. Make the height 12 feet and see what happens, shorten height to 4 feet and see what happens. Same on the width. Rule number one in family creation is FLEX-FLEX-FLEX.
Also, a better approach to making a door family is to nest in the door panel and use a type catalog for all the different types rather than build each type within the family editor. If you really want to get a handle on all of this, search this site for tutorials and families that use nested components. Also consider a trip to Autodesk University 2005 in Orlando the week after Thanksgiving. I have been to AU for the last two years and I am going again this year. There are two classes on family building both taught by family experts (Steve Stafford and Dave Conent of Autodesk). Check out the following link for more information on AU:
