There is a Van including in revit in the "entourage" folder which is a very simple family (a couple extrusions and split faces) and is somehow able to angle itself to rest properly on a topo surface when placed. It has something to do with the reference plane in the family named "3". I deleted everything else in the Van family and put a single rectangular extrusion with work plane on "3" and if placed on a topo surface it will angle perfectly. If I start a new family and try to copy the reference plane and everything exactly and load that into the project it wont follow the topo. The van family is Entourage, I have tried making one from the Entourage, site, and generic model templates. I'm guessing there is some "perpenticular to host" setting somewhere but I cant find it. Please dont suggest just editing the Van family for everything because I would like to actually understand how this works so I can advance. Thanks

SETTINGS-->FAMILY CATEGORY AND PARAMETERS-->UNTICK ALWAYS VERTICAL... THIS WILL ALLOW A SITE BASED ELEMENT TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST FOR A SLOPING TOPOGRAPHY (WITHIN REASON). HTH.
